Baked Mostaccioli: Oven @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes on lower oven rack


1) 8 ounces of uncooked mostaccioli noodles

2)1&1/2 pounds of lean ground beef

3)1 onion finely chopped

4)1 garlic clove minced

5)1 28 ounce can of low sodium diced tomatoes

6)1 8 ounce can of tomato paste

7) 1/2 cup of water

8)1&1/4 Teaspoon of salt

9) 1Teaspoon of sugar

10) 1 teaspoon odf dried basil

11) 1/8 teaspoon pepper

12) 1 Bay Leaf

13) 2 cups 8 ounces of shredded part skim mozzarella cheese

14) 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese

Preparation: Cook mostaccioli according to package directions & drain than set aside

In large skillet cook beef  with onion until beef  is no longer pink over medium heat and add minced garlic & cook 1 minute more & drain excess fat. Add tomatoes,tomato sauce,tomato paste ,water,salt & pepper,basil, bay leaf and basil. Bring mixture to a rolling boil than reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes stirring occassionaly.

Place mixture in 13×9 baking pan top with mozzarella cheese and bake until cheese is melted and golden brown. Serve with salad & warm french bread if so desired.
