Chickens are increasingly becoming common in gardens and a few facts about these birds.

  • People have been raising chickens for at least 5,000 years. Chickens originated in Asia and are among the oldest domesticated animals.
  • Depending on the breed,hens usuallay produce one egg every 24 to 36 hours during periods of egg-laying.
  • 3 benefits of chickens in the backyard: Garden help  by which they control weeds and pests. Fertilizer, chicken manure is naturally rich in nutrients. The third benefit they provide food rich in protein.
  • Among others,these four plants are toxic to chickens; milkweed,tobacco( smart chickens), yew,and castor bean.
